A lot of really exciting things have happened recently. Back at the end of June when I was at TNNA I walked by the Interweave booth, and saw a little poster for the new Unofficial Harry Potter Knits magazine. I did a double take, and realized that it was MY sweater on the cover. I think I shrieked in excitement!

Last week I got a PDF copy of the magazine, and let me tell you, it’s full of beautiful patterns!

When I first saw the call for submissions on this it was November or December of last year. I had a few ideas, and the first was a Mrs. Weasley type sweater that would use scraps of left over yarns and a duplicate stitch letter that would be the initial of the wearer. Sort of a combination of the crazy arm warmers she wears in the movie and the monogrammed sweaters she knit. Then I remembered a pattern I’d seen before that was called tiger’s eye, and I didn’t see tigers at all, I saw owls! So then I had the idea for Ginny’s Owl Cardigan. Fast forward 7 months and here we are with my sweater on the cover!

#1Anyways, the really exciting thing that happened this weekend was it became the #1 most popular pattern on Ravelry! I even took a picture to prove it to you!

I’m so excited about this sweater that I’m going to host a knit a-long in the Mari Knits Ravelry Group. I’ll have more details about the KAL next week.

I’ve heard that the magazine is available in a few stores already, but should be widely available in yarn shops and other stores in the next week or so. You can also buy a digital version right now from Interweave! Will you knit an owl sweater with me?

Mari, I see why your sweater design was chosen for the cover of The Unofficial Harry Potter Knits magazine. It is fabulous!!! And yes, I see owls too. 🙂

I love quite a few of those patterns and being a HP fan I would love to knit some of them too. I did hear that the magazine was only being sold in the US though.

It’s true that it’s only being sold in the U.S. If you have a friend here they can mail you a copy!
