I’m a big fan of top down hats. You don’t need to measure or make a gauge swatch before you cast on. Here’s the hat I knit for Brian. My basic recipe: CO 8 sts. Increase Round: Increase 8 stitches. Work 1 round plain. Alternate these two rounds until you reach your desired circumference. Work in your pattern until your hat is long enough. Then work some ribbing, or don’t. Or work some other edging. Bind off all the stitches. … Read More

I first designed the Broken Rib Hat while living and working in China…I think it was 2011? It was a while ago! I’ve recently updated the pattern so it now includes three sizes, 18 (20, 22)” circumference, and I’ve updated to my new formatting too. The hat features a simple broken rib pattern, and is a great unisex pattern. I’ve made this hat for several friends, and it’s a great quick and easy hat in worsted or aran weight yarn. … Read More

I’m really excited about my newest pattern, the KaPOM! Hat in the latest issue of Holla Knits Accessories. It’s a hat so bold it hits you in the face! This whole hat happened after I met Allyson in person at TNNA this summer. We talked about how all my previous submissions to Holla Knits were a little simpler than what she looks for. I do love stockinette and clean lines, and I have to admit my look is generally more … Read More
Last week the new Bulky Collection 2013 from Knit Picks was published! You can see my pattern, the Chunky Cabled Hat & Scarf, here. Personally I’m not a huge fan of scarves that aren’t reversible. I’m not one of those people who can always look ‘just so’ and thus I need accessories that are flexible. Shawls don’t have to abide by this rule because usually I wear them like kerchiefs, and those tend to stay put a little better. So … Read More
Ok, this took way longer to take a picture of than it should have. Mostly because I kept getting side tracked, and then it was really rainy, and then it snowed for the first time all winter! Anyways, here’s finally a picture of the hat. I think it turned out pretty well, and Brian likes it, so that’s what really matters right?
Brian asked me for this Punisher hat on Ravelry about 4 months ago. I finally cast on as a quick in-between project, but of course, it wasn’t meant to be. I found the chart made from a free online website hard to read, so I had to create my own chart. Also, Brian has a giant head so I had to make the hat larger. Anyways, here are my own instructions for creating a large Punisher hat. A picture of the finished … Read More
