Last year I taught a block of the month class at my local store Warm ‘n Fuzzy. I really enjoyed teaching it–so much that this year I’m teaching a similar class–but this time with my own pattern! This design is a result of my OCD. I didn’t want borders around each of the squares because as nice as they look when you are knitting the squares it made me crazy that once seamed, you’d have double borders on the inside … Read More
I’ve been making progress on my gloves! I just haven’t been blogging about them… Here are a few photos of my progress. Join the fun in the Mari Knits Ravelry group and share your progress!
I know parents, teachers, and most people who work with kids will tell you that they don’t choose favorites. I was a teacher, and I definitely had favorites. And now, as a designer, I still have favorites, though they do change as new designs are born. One of my current favorites, and one of my newest patterns, is the Connectivity Gloves, which was recently published in the Deep Fall Issue of Knitty. I’ve already knit these twice, and I’ve … Read More
As part of the ongoing Holla Knits KAL, I’ll be hosting a Ka-POM Knit-A-Long, AKA Ka-POM-along. Or that’s what I’ve been calling it in my head. I’ve ordered more amazing Baah Yarns Shasta, and I can’t wait for it to arrive! Get your copy of Ka-POM hat, from Holla Knits Accessories, and join the fun! Shown in Baah! Yarns Worsted in Obsidian, Grey Onyx, and Tequila Lime. Photo Credit: Holla Knits Here are the colors I’ve chosen for my Ka-POM-along: I’m so … Read More
I’ve really enjoyed knitting a sweater for myself, and I’ve been making solid progress on my Ginny’s Cardigan. I’ve been posting daily photos to Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook, and here’s my progress so far. I have about an inch left on the first sleeve, and I just worked the first two rows of the owl chart. I finally worked on my Scalene yesterday for the first time in over a month. I think I’m about … Read More
Other Considerations Here are some more thoughts on customizing different parts of the sweater. If you’d like to shorten the sleeves on your sweater to make them 3/4 length, figure out how long you’d like your sleeve to be, and start your sweater at that point in the directions. For example, if you’re supposed to cast on 46 stitches, and you work ribbing for 2″, and then increase 2 stitches every inch, and you’d like to shorten your sleeves by … Read More
I don’t like to follow directions. I don’t like to follow recipes, and I don’t like to follow knitting patterns either. This is how I got started writing knitting patterns in the first place. Today I’d like to share some thoughts and ideas on how to customize Ginny’s Cardigan, because everyone is unique, so you should adapt your sweater accordingly so that you get YOUR perfect sweater. 1. Measure! First, before you can know if, how, and where you want to … Read More
My yarn has arrived for the Ginny’s Cardigan, and although I’m dying to get started and cast on I have a ton of deadline knitting to do that are looming over me, so I’m hoping to get those done before the August 10th start date. In the meantime I’ve been getting some questions about how to choose what size to knit, and what to do if your row gauge is off. What if your row gauge is off? As I … Read More
I’m excited to tell you that the Ginny’s Cardigan KAL will be starting on Saturday, August 10th! This means you still have time to get a copy of the magazine (I hear some people are having a hard time finding it in print, I haven’t received my hard copy yet either). It also means you have time to choose your yarn and knit your swatch. The KAL I’ll be reading messages and responding to questions regularly in the Ginny’s Cardigan … Read More
A lot of really exciting things have happened recently. Back at the end of June when I was at TNNA I walked by the Interweave booth, and saw a little poster for the new Unofficial Harry Potter Knits magazine. I did a double take, and realized that it was MY sweater on the cover. I think I shrieked in excitement! Last week I got a PDF copy of the magazine, and let me tell you, it’s full of beautiful patterns! … Read More
It’s time to do another knit-a-long! What’s a knit-a-long? It’s kind of like when you sit and knit with your friends, except you do it online through pictures. Sometimes everyone follows the same pattern, but sometimes not, there’s usually a theme to tie everything together. Doesn’t it sound like fun? What Knit-a-long for any Mari Knits pattern Why Because it’s peak knitting season, and I always enjoy knitting with friends! When Begins Sunday November 18, ends Sunday December 16 Prizes Yes! They’ll be announced/decided … Read More
So the KAL actually ended on Sunday, but I didn’t get a chance to take photos until Monday, and it’s taken me until Wednesday to post about it here. Oh well. Anyways, Here’s a photo pre-blocking. It’s still a little damp even though it’s been sitting out for 2 days, but I’m hoping to take it to Columbus with me this weekend for TNNA!
I’m just over half way on my Holey Hug Shrug. I can’t wait until it’s done so that I can actually wear one of my own knit garments for a change!
I cast on for the shrug on Saturday, but then decided I was going to knit it in the round, so I started over. I’ve gotten past all the increases, and have done one repeat back and forth. Since I’m totally changing the pattern by knitting parts of it in the round there is quite a bit more figuring out to do. On WS rows I have to do the opposite of what’s written, and that can be difficult to … Read More
