WIP Wednesday: Yeti

Just before our 18 week ultrasound where we could find out the gender of the baby I had a momentary lapse in my desire to not find out the gender of the baby. It all started because I saw an adorable crochet baby dress on Pinterest. Then I started looking at all the adorable gender specific baby knitting patterns, and started showing Brian too, trying to convince him we should find out the gender of the baby for the sole … Read More

Last week I impulsively wound a skein of Louet Euroflax Sport that I found hiding out in my stash. The lovely light lavender color just screamed Spring and since it was the first 80 degree day of the year the only appropriate way to mark the occasion seemed to be by winding a skein…soon after I cast on for a project!   I can’t remember the last time I knit something just for fun–and I don’t know that I will … Read More

WIP Wednesday: Current Obsessions

posted in: WIP, WIP wednesday | 4

I have two current obsessions. The first is lotion bars. I’ve been obsessed with them for a while now. I started using coconut oil last fall, but with summers all of my coconut oil turned liquified, and so I made the switch to lotion bars! I tried making my own, and although they are nice these that I just got from Milk+Honey are so much better! I’m not sure if I wasn’t using enough essential oils or what, but these … Read More

WIP Wednesday: Solitude Wool

I’m working on a new design, and although I can’t tell you what it is, I can tell show you a few photos and tell you about the yarn. I’m thrilled to be working with Solitude Wool. They are a farm in Virginia not far from Washington, DC. They raise American sheep and purchase wool from other farms in the US and create beautiful breed specific yarns. The yarn is dyed by hand with natural plant dyes and acid dyes, … Read More

WIP: Wednesday Ginny KAL & Scalene

I’ve really enjoyed knitting a sweater for myself, and I’ve been making solid progress on my Ginny’s Cardigan. I’ve been posting daily photos to Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook, and here’s my progress so far. I have about an inch left on the first sleeve, and I just worked the first two rows of the owl chart.           I finally worked on my Scalene yesterday for the first time in over a month. I think I’m about … Read More

It’s that time again…for WIP Wednesday! I just cast on yesterday for Scalene by Carina Spencer. I decided a few weeks ago that I really wanted to make this, because it looks fun and a little different from your typical shawl. Then we realized that we really needed a sample at the shop of Fyberspates Scrumptious, which is a lovely wool/silk yarn, and so I had to cast on immediately! Although yellow isn’t really my color, I’m kind of liking … Read More

So I don’t have a lot of WIPs with you to share today. I’m still working on the baby blanket. Well, ‘working on it’ might be a bit of a stretch…it’s still sitting in a bag and needs to be finished. I have made some progress on the striped infinity scarf, and I actually finished the cowl from the last post, but I don’t have any photos of it, and technically it’s not finished as I haven’t woven in the … Read More

WIP Wednesday!

It’s been a while since I’ve done a WIP Wednesday post, so here’s mine for today! I have a couple of other secret projects I’m working on too, but here are some of the ones that I can share! I’m knitting another pair of my Two Hands Make A Snowflake. This is for a shop sample for Warm ‘n Fuzzy, and I’ll hopefully be teaching a class on this soon. I have some sneaky secret methods for the fingers that … Read More

WIP Wednesday

There was recently a discussion on the designer’s group on Ravelry about finding time for ‘personal’ knitting. Honestly before I started working in a yarn shop it had probably been a year since I had followed someone else’s pattern. Now that I work in a shop I knit shop samples, which occasionally are my patterns, but more often someone else’s pattern. This is such a huge pleasure to me. Knitting another designer’s pattern is like a mental vacation. I get … Read More

It’s been a while since I posted about my WIPs, so I thought today was a good day to get back into the habit! I’m knitting the Gemini top by Jane Richmond. I admire her aesthetic and I think she also does a great job styling her photos. This is a shop sample for Warm ‘n Fuzzy, and I’ll also be teaching a class on the pattern. I’m customizing the pattern to have lace on all the sides, and I’m … Read More

WIP Wednesday: Shawls & Secrets

posted in: knitting, WIP, WIP wednesday | 0

I made some good progress on my Anteros Shawl these past two weeks, but all the photos I tried to take are really blurry and terrible, so I’ll save everyone the pain of looking at them. I did unknit almost the entire thing on my flight to Portland, because the stitch count didn’t match on both sides. I got some strange looks on the plane. Brian was very nice and helped me to wind the yarn as I pulled my … Read More

WIP Wednesday: Shawls

Shawls are one of my favorite things to knit. I’m flying to Oregon for Thanksgiving tomorrow, so I’m getting ready for the plane ride by casting on a couple projects that I know I’ll enjoy knitting on the plane.  I decided to knit the Anteros Shawl for the Mari Knits Knit-A-Long, but when I went to wind the skein I discovered that my yarn was super tangled, and the yarn was broken into over 20 pieces! It was a huge … Read More

WIP Wednesday: slippers and comics

I knit a pair of these adorable Not-So-Tiny Slippers by Ysolda Teague last week for the shop. They are super quick, and super cute!  So I decided I needed my own pair. I started them a couple nights ago, and then I did the bulk of it last night, when I was tired…that was NOT a good idea. You’ll see in the photo below that the cute little yarn over holes are not centered… I’m a little bit of a … Read More
