Brian’s Favorite Baby Gifts

posted in: baby | 2

We’ve received a lot of wonderful baby gifts thanks to the generosity of our friends and family, but today I want to share what have been Brian’s three favorite gifts! First up, an amazing quilted alphabet book made by my mother. Considering my sewing skills include sewing in crooked lines I’m pretty impressed by the level of detail in this book. I’m sure it took FOREVER. And my favorite part, that Y is for yarn! Next up, two gifts from … Read More

Swans Island is currently hosting┬áthe Swans Island Legacy Contest. The prize is a hand woven throw worth $690. It looks amazing. To enter the contest they ask that you share the story of something that means a lot to you. Whether it’s hand crafted or store bought, whether it’s something that’s new but really special or something that’s been passed on for generations, what is it, and why does it mean so much to you? Of course, I’m going to … Read More

WIP Wednesday: Crochet Flowers

I’ve decided to turn my crochet flowers, first blogged about here, into a pillow! I need to make a few more flowers and get a pillow form, but it’s going pretty well! This is my first attempt at the join-as-you-go crochet, and I think it’s fairly easy. The only thing I don’t like about this project–ALL THOSE ENDS! I thought I had dealt with 10,000 ends after crocheting the flowers and weaving in most of those ends, but then there … Read More

WIP Wednesday: Current Obsessions

I have two current obsessions. The first is lotion bars. I’ve been obsessed with them for a while now. I started using coconut oil last fall, but with summers all of my coconut oil turned liquified, and so I made the switch to lotion bars! I tried making my own, and although they are nice these that I just got from Milk+Honey are so much better! I’m not sure if I wasn’t using enough essential oils or what, but these … Read More

FO Friday: Funny Faces

I made a super simple crochet necklace this week. Single crochet, 28 gauge wire, beads, and a few findings is all that was required. The whole project took a couple of hours, spread out over the course of the week. Then last night Brian and I tried to take photos of this necklace.   But some days, taking a decent photo is harder than it sounds. Turns out handing your husband a camera and putting on lipstick doesn’t turn him … Read More

FO Friday: Two Non-Knits!

I’ve been coveting the beautiful Montea dress from Collette Patterns for a while now. The problem is that I don’t really know how to sew. I bought a sewing machine back in January and promised myself I’d learn to sew. I tried once in January shortly after getting the machine, couldn’t sew in straight lines, got frustrated, and it’s been sitting on the shelf ever since. Learning something new means you have to spend time being really bad at it, … Read More

Crazy Cozies and Cozy Crazy

I don’t get cozies. Why do you need a coffee cup cozy? Why do people keep pinning them on Pinterest? Have you ever seen anyone pull out a handmade cup cozy at Starbucks? I have to admit I don’t go to coffee shops much, so if you actually use a cup cozy please, let me know, this is a total mystery to me! Ok, so to continue my rant, I’ve collected some of my favorite most ridiculous cozies. I’ve also … Read More

Let them eat cake!

Yesterday afternoon I had the strong desire to eat cake. I didn’t have any cake in my house, so of course the next best thing was to look at photos of knit and crochet cakes on Ravelry. Yes, I realize this is not at all a normal train of thought, but I have a confession to make: my name is Mari and I am addicted to fiber. This is the cake that started it all, and once I saw this … Read More
